Training “Strong local community – the key to successful local government reform”

2-4 July in Bryukhovychi was first regional practical training in frame of  programme “Strong local community – the key to successful local government reform”, which organized by Education for Democracy Foundation ( Warszawa, Poland), Vinnytska  Young NGO “Our Podillya”, NGO “Tovarystvo Leva” (Lviv, Ukraine) and the Network of “Community Initiatives of Ukraine.”

The aim of training was to acquaint congregated participants to deepen their knowledge on the subject of local government reform and the mechanisms of interaction between the public and local authorities, as well as training helped participants to cooperation within the follow-up project. Participants of event were representatives of Yavoriv, Mykolaiv, Pustomyty and Zhovkva regions of Lviv district.

The main themes of training were: local government reform, decentralization, mechanisms of participation in decision-making, inter-sector cooperation, analysis of resources and problems of local communities, best practices for change in local communities, gender, etc. Among the participants of 3-day training were representatives of local authority, business and NGO,  that has allowed considering all the problems comprehensively and jointly seeking solutions. 

Also in frame of this programme is scheduled study visit to Poland to learn about Polish experience in government reform and decentralization. Another feature of the program “Strong local community – the key to successful local government reform” is  that each of the teams representing their regions will to conduct  public events on question local government reform  and receive a grant for the implementation of local initiatives on competitive basis.
